According to LifeCenter, one organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and one tissue donor can enhance the lives of 50. But only 45 percent of Americans are registered organ donors while an average of 21 men, women, and children die each day waiting for transplants. That’s why Donate Life America recently created an awesome PSA that shows how even the world’s biggest a**hole can become a hero by simply signing up to be an organ donor.
Donate Life’s PSA follows the story of Coleman Sweeney. Sweeney isn’t a good man by any means. Truck nuts dangle from his old clunker, he shoots small animals with paintballs, and steals candy from children. But after dropping dead from a brain aneurysm, Sweeney was able to help more people than many good-hearted folks ever could. Although Sweeney was an a**hole in life, by becoming an organ donor he was an angel in death.
