Ancient Greek physician Herophilos was on to something with these words of wisdom: "When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied."
For July, we have decided to put the GOOD focus on the subject of health—from ways you can take better control over your personal health, to ways we can collectively help improve community and global health.
Last month, we had a conversation with Thea Linscott and Scott Slater, both brand ambassadors for the organization Stupid Cancer, when this topic of DIY Health was raised. They asked, What if, as a generation of DIYers, we made wellness our most important project?\n
We knew this was the right approach to take. So what can we do? Our monthly challenge to the GOOD community begins with the act of paying attention—taking steps to understand your health and be proactive in preserving it. Start with our DIY Health Check-up.
We will be sharing posts from experts in the medical, fitness, nutrition, and wellness communities and will look at physical and mental health, as well as exploring forms of alternative medicine. We'll examine how far we've come, how far we need to go, and how we can be participants in the process of making things better. To this end, we will have a few weekly blocks of citizenship related to health. First up: Take a first aid class.
Follow along at good.is/health for more posts on the subject and join the conversation by sharing posts on health that inspire and enlighten you.
Here's to our collective health.
