Video Shows How Trump’s Hate Speech Inspires Violence

The ugly, racial element to this campaign season.

A new video posted by Mother Jones that juxtaposes Donald Trump’s modern-day hate speech with images of racist brutality from America’s past has been viewed over 15 million times. It’s important because it shows the implications of hateful rhetoric and how it has already inspired acts of violence against minorities. The hate speech has been part of his campaign since its inception when he called Mexicans “rapists.” This set off a chain of events where minorities have been targeted by Trump’s supporters.

Back in November, a Black Lives Matter protester was shoved and kicked at a Trump rally and the Republican candidate stood behind his supporters. “Maybe [the protester] should have been roughed up,” he said. “It was absolutely disgusting what he was doing.” Then in February, 30 black students were asked to leave a rally simply for sitting in silence. And the next day, black protestors were harassed by a group of self-identified white supremacists at another rally. Despite all of this, however, Trump is still expected to take next week's California primary with a 97 percent victory.
