Elizabeth Warren Calls Trump ‘Thin-Skinned, Racist Bully’

Some VP auditioning?

The war of words is escalating. Elizabeth Warren has quickly build a reputation for herself as one of the pre-eminent Donald Trump attack dogs in the Democratic Party. It’s all the more surprising considering the Massachusetts senator built her reputation as a thoughtful policy wonk. But when it comes to the New York real estate mogul, she seems to genuinely enjoy punching for the gut.

In her latest salvo, Warren used a speech on Thursday to criticize Trump’s attacks on Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing the trial over Trump University. Most observers, including a number of Republicans, have slammed Trump for saying Judge Curiel cannot be impartial in the proceedings because of his ethnic heritage and ties to Hispanic organizations. Because he’s a judge, federal law prohibits Curiel from responding. Which led to Warren’s comments:

“Trump is picking on someone who is ethically bound not to defend himself — exactly what you would expect from a thin-skinned, racist bully,” she said.

“He’s even condemned federal judges who are Muslim on the disgusting theory that Trump's own bigotry compromises the judge’s neutrality. You just can’t make this stuff up,” she added.

Of course, Trump isn’t staying silent the issue. Via his Twitter account, the presumptive Republican nominee said he hopes Hillary Clinton chooses the “goofy” “Pocahontas” as her running mate.

Trump also later shared a Tweet of Warren criticizing Clinton’s ties to corporate donors.

It’s certainly not the most elevated form of political discourse but it’s currently the most engaging. And with the kind of response it’s getting, don’t expect the insults to stop flying from either side anytime soon.
