The Daily Show discusses the root causes of the Egyptian protests. While giving some time to arguments that social networking, or the doctorines of Presidents Bush or Obama may have had something to do with, Stewart and company make the point that it's probably mostly because life in Egypt is really pretty awful and people are finally sick of it. It's fairly colonialist to think that the only way people in the developing world can foment revolution is through Western technology. People in Egypt (and everywhere else) have been throwing off the yoke of oppressive regimes for millennia. Twitter might help, but they would be fine without it.
