Joel describes himself as a "Christian-libertarian-environmentalist-lunatic farmer," and finds it strange that people aren't bothered by the fact that they can't look into the eyes of the people who have grown their food. It's because we imagine looking in the eyes of the man who makes the Twinkies would be a pretty horrifying experience, but we see where Joel is coming from.
