Boy With Two Rare Conditions Rescued A Cat That’s Just Like Him

“We knew that we were meant to love this kitty.”

THE GOOD NEWS:

A young boy found strength after befriending a cat that shares the same rare conditions as him.

When you’re going through a hard time, few things can lift your spirits like finding someone else who can relate. In this incredible story, a young boy found that someone … in a cat.

Madden is a 7-year-old boy in Minnesota who was born with two very rare conditions: a cleft lip and palate and heterochromia iridum (different eye colors). The boy’s rare features have made him the target of bullies.

Recently, his mother, Christina Humphreys, was browsing Facebook group for moms of kids with cleft palates or lips, when she came across a cat named Moon in an Oklahoma shelter. She immediately thought it was a miracle.

Just like her son, the cat had both a cleft lip and heterochromia iridum.

Humphreys knew the cat was destined to be with her son, so she loaded her three boys in the car and drove 30 hours to the shelter. “We’re usually not spontaneous people, but we knew that we were meant to love this kitty,” Humphrys told Love What Matters. “I think it’s safe to say that this kitty is love and was certainly meant to be part of our journey and Madden’s journey.”

Moon has been a great addition to the Humphreys family and has helped Madden develop a positive attitude about his rare conditions. “Not only so that both he and the kitty have a relatable and sweet companion, but also, I hope Moon helps Madden realize that being born unique is an incredible thing; that he is magic,” Humphreys said. “These two handsome guys truly are a wonder.”

This isn’t the first time Madden has been in the spotlight. An anti-bullying video he made went viral last year. “Don’t be mean to other people that are different. We’ve already been through a lot of hard stuff,” Madden said in the video. “Show everybody kindness! You’re missing out on a lot of awesome people if you’re being a poophead to them. If somebody’s being mean to you, be nice to them. Because the most unlovable people need love the most.”
