Identify the ignored, abandoned, or overwhelming projects in your home, then share your list with us.
Things are easier said than done, or so the old adage goes, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we do 30 Days of GOOD (#30DaysofGOOD), a monthly attempt to live better. Our challenge for July? Do It Yourself.
First Task: Submit Your Projects
Building and fixing your own DIY projects is just like cooking a nice meal: The best results come with good preparation. You need to pick a recipe, gather and prepare the ingredients and utensils, and measure and chop. Once everything is set, the actual cooking happens quickly and easily—just like bolting together the cut-and-drilled pieces of a homemade coffee table.
Keeping that approach in mind, the first task in our DIY challenge is to decide where we want to go.
Walk around your house, apartment, yard, or garage, and look for things that need to be built, fixed, replaced, or improved. Do you have a favorite chair that's gotten wobbly over the years? Do you want to update a cool old lamp to work with modern lightbulbs? Do you want to hand-make a special gift for the favorite person in your life? Find all those ignored, abandoned, or overwhelming projects and make a list of them. Take pics (lots of 'em) of the projects you'd like to undertake and submit them along with your DIY to-do list in the comments below.
We'll use the most requested and interesting submissions to shape the projects and guides for the month. This could be stuff you've put off for a while, or that you think only an expert can do, or even just a question about what type of cordless drill to buy. This is your challenge, so get involved and send us some good stuff.
We're giving away $1000 for you to share your own DIY skills with others. Participate in our Host a GOOD Workshop challenge.
