Cartographers, as professions, have pretty much worked themselves out of a job. But that doesn't mean a working knowledge of geography is worthless. Just ask the 14-year-old winner of the National Geography Bee, Caitlin Snarling. Not only is she $25,000 richer than she was yesterday, but she probably has a more sophisticated global perspective than those of us who can't tell our Jakartas from our Djiboutis.
