GOOD 100: Meet Barbara Soalheiro, Inspiring and Learning Through Trial and Error

Barbara Soalheiro is the founder of the São Paolo, Brazil-based Mesa & Cadeira (Table & Chair). Their mission is to bring experts from various fields together with professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds to inspire learning through trial and error, and the exchange of ideas. Table & Chair creates a collaborative, problem-solving environment where professionals are encouraged to “do something, fail, do it better, fail again, but in different places and, while doing it, you’ll learn.”

The Brazilian-born journalist co-founded Table & Chair with Francesca Wade in 2012, and the company is entering its second year with the goal of expansion and continuing to host workshops that inspire learning through doing.

“Now, 2013 is the year for us to grow, to really become a company: to bring more money in, more people to work with us, bigger projects to work on,” Soalheiro says.

2013 is also the year Soalheiro will build the Kindergarten Playground she and her team designed at Mesa 4. She would like to see it finished and ready for play by this July.

“We worked on a playground that can easily be adapted to different spaces and that is not object based, but works as a scenery so children's imaginations play a big role,” Soalheiro says.
