In olden days, we honored both Lincoln and Washington's birthdays as their own special days. Now, because we must work all the time, and because we like to be inclusive, we honor all former presidents on one day. This has the sad effect of meaning that Lincoln and Washington receive the same amount of holiday recognition as Tyler or Garfield. It's like they decided to just let every president into the president hall of fame.So to remember all the presidents to whom we pay homage today, watch this laughably silly video in which each president is given a rhyming couplet explaining what they did (sung exquisitely, I might add). It's reminiscent of Alice Provensen's brilliant The Buck Stops Here, in which each president, surrounded by illustrations of his accomplishments, is also given a rhyming couplet (important presidents, like, ahem, Lincoln and Washington, get two). It should be the cornerstone of any education in American history, and you should buy it now, in honor of President's Day.Photo via Fireworks.com. Play with fireworks safely!
