I've always found the practice of giving a death-sentenced person the opportunity to utter a series of "last words" to be profoundly (and bizarrely) fascinating. Perhaps not surprisingly, clicking through Tru TV's collection of final statements by criminals awaiting execution is a bit of a harrowing experience.
After reading only a few statements, a cumulative pathos effect begins to weigh heavily on me. It's tough to say whether my reaction might differ if the crimes that begot these death sentences were listed beside the statements. Regardless, and regardless of your take on capital punishment, the whole business leaves me with a renewed appreciation for life and something of a stomachache.Via Buzzfeed.
