"I saw the police were at my door and they had an order from the city to come and check out a suspicious structure in the backyard," says Melinda Hackett. The suspicious structure in question? A Greenwich Village tree house, which apparently in all its ordinariness is actually quite extraordinary in New York City.
Hackett received an injunction and an order to appear before court but the case was just dismissed. "My kids come up here and have meetings. They use it as a clubhouse," Hackett says. "They plot. They scheme. They gossip."
