Here (video below the jump) is Nike's first Tiger Woods ad since his unraveling, released two days ago in advance of his return to golf. The voice belongs to Earl Woods, Tiger's late father.

Most commentators think it's manipulative or tacky. I think it's brilliant. It focuses on the one aspect of this prurient circus that might matter: Whether Tiger has become a better person. And by leaving that question unanswered, it acknowledges that neither Nike, nor the public, nor perhaps even Tiger himself, knows what he learned yet. If there had to be a new Tiger ad—and there did—this one does a good job of retaining Nike's dignity, at least.
