Meet Sgt. Steve Wick, part of the Houston Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Program. He describes his work in matter-of-fact fashion, “What my team tries to do is eliminate the complaints associated with people living on the streets, by getting those people off the streets. Seems pretty simple doesn’t it?”

It does, Sgt. Wick. And it’s working: the program has helped more than 400 people get into permanent and temporary housing over the past five years.  Houston PD’s Homeless Outreach currently consists of four police officers, one sergeant and three mental health case workers.
