From the department of late arrivals: a Google maps mashup that plots the locations of street art pieces from all over the globe, called StreetArtLocator.com.The people behind the endeavor describe it thusly:"Marrying Google mapping technology and input from the street art community, the site aims to create a definitive global directory of stencils, sculpture, guerrilla art and graffiti.StreetArtLocator.com will showcase the genre in all its forms, whether made in secret, sanctioned by corporate sponsors or accepted by the art establishment. ... The site is stocked by members, who find, photograph and upload street art images, tagged to a specific location."It's still getting started-the Los Angeles area is pretty sparsely populated, for example-but it'd be great to see this develop into something comprehensive. Beyond being a lot of fun to browse, it could be a handy resource for travelers who want to do some non-traditional sightseeing, and a valuable tool for sociologists and other academics who are starting to study street art.(Via PSFK)
