DIY Learning: How Do We Make College Free (or Extremely Affordable)?

The book DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs, and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education is being turned into webisodes.

With the cost of higher education skyrocketing, and the value of a college degree constantly being called into question, the do-it-yourself learning model is looking better than ever. Now author Anya Kamenetz is putting the ideas from her refreshing book DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs, and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education into an animated series of thought provoking webisodes that describe how technology is challenging the current college system.

You can watch the first episode (clearly influenced by the RSA Animate videos) above. It covers the history of higher education from the birth of the first university to the explosion of web-based knowledge and instruction. In future videos, Kamenetz plans to dive into the specifics of how we make the transition to a free or affordable open courseware-based higher education system. We're big fans of the DIY learning movement, so we're looking forward to the next episode.
