Living, Breathing Technology

We're back from our break with big ideas (and alliteration, apparently).

Kevin Kelly, "Senior Maverick" at Wired magazine has a new essay on Edge viewing technology as a seventh kingdom of life.

His basic question is, does the evolution of technology progress according to its own independent logic, and are we losing control of it?

En route he raises the following modest issues:

"Is a sprinter with two prosthetic carbon-fiber springs instead of legs, disabled or enhanced?"

"...do we remain one species, or will we evolve ourselves into many species?"

"What is a human anyway?"

The essay is a great read.
