How a Poem Written for a Tiny Baby Brought One Son Back Home

Beautiful.

Like many young people, Forest moved away from his important places when he went away to college and chased this dream or that one.

Until the day he discovered the poem that his dad wrote for him when he was born.

His dad had turned 70, and Forest knew that he had to go rediscover the important places with him, before it was too late.

How about you? When’s the last time you explored your important places with family or friends?

The Important Places

Child of mine

come as you grow

in youth you will learn the secret places

the cave behind the waterfall

the arms of the oak that hold you high

the stars so near on a desert ledge

the important places

and as with age you choose your own way

among the many faces of a busy world

may you always remember the path that leads back

back to the important places.

— Dad for Forest, 1986
