People have long been hoping that nanotechnology-the engineering of miniscule machines-will some day allow us to make cheap, efficient solar panels. A company called Nanosolar is at the forefront of that effort. They just released this six-minute video describing their process for printing a liquid solar cell concoction onto cheap sheets of aluminum-complete with techno-thriller soundtrack.[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGuwUQ1gl8YThe Google guys are both investors in Nanosolar, for what that's worth. TreeHugger has more on the technical details. Nanosolar won't reveal their costs, so it's unclear if this is a commercial breakthrough, but it's certainly progress.
