You may not have heard of the X-Prize; it's a foundation that gave a $10 million prize to the first company that could launch a craft into space. Tired of a lack of innovation at NASA, the X-Prize took matters into its own hands. Now the winner, SpaceShipOne, is going to be the vessel taking people in to space for Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space tourism venture. Most importantly, news is now that the X-Prize will offer a prize for the most effective non-combustion-driven car. When capitalism mixes with innovation, the results far exceed what staid industries or governments can ever do. Let's hope this new X-Prize is no exception.
