While I watch the NBA Finals, I usually have my Twitter app open on my phone, possibly a magazine nearby, and I’​m carrying on half a conversation with the people around me. But this kid crushes me at multitasking. While he watches the NBA Finals, he’​s also playing trumpet in his high school’​s band recital. Maybe he thought he was being slick by sneaking his phone onto his sheet music stand, but someone in the crowd managed to catch it over his shoulder. Either way, his commitment to basketball cannot be questioned. His commitment to his band recital, that’s a different story.

Hopefully, he’​ll get to watch Game 3 tonight without having to simultaneously play a trumpet.

It’s called “immersion reading” and it’s very simple. You just take a paper book or Kindle version to read while simultaneously listening to the audiobook on your headphones. This doubling-up engages both your eyes and ears, allowing you to fully absorb whatever book you have in front of you. It sounds like a gimmick, but many book lovers swear by it.
