An emphasis on cancer prevention is a new focus for Nigeria.
It's International Cancer Week in Nigeria and the theme this year is: Cancer Can Be Prevented.
Nigeria's Daily Champion reported:
Prof. Ifeome Okoye, Professor of Radiology College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital says the major problem in Nigeria was late detection. People are aware but afraid. Our people need to understand that there is cancer and it can be prevented.\n
Professor Okoye believes that campaigns to raise awareness, early detection, a healthy diet and lifestyle will go a long way in reducing cancer rates in Nigeria.
According to PM News Nigeria, cancer rates in Nigeria have steadily increased and in particular, prostate cancer which has become the most common cause of cancer affecting Nigerian men.
