Wash, rinse, repeat.
Beards might be all the rage these days, but if everyone knew what kinds of bacteria were lurking about in all that glorious facial hair, they might reconsider a clean shave. In Albuquerque, NM, local news station KOAT 7 and Quest Diagnostics decided to find out just how dirty some beards might be. They swabbed a handful of volunteer beards and tested them for bacteria. While several of the tested beards contained bacteria that was considered normal, some contained, according to John Golobic, a microbiologist for Quest Diagnostics, “the type of things you’d find in (fecal matter).” Granted, the small sample size does not give real insight into the general cleanliness of the typical beard, but the next time you see someone stroking or scratching their face mane, you can still let them know they might want to sanitize their hands.
