The pace of scientific discovery could be made faster. The key to accelerating it: greater sharing of data and information that allows researchers to devise the correct experiments and avoid the pitfalls of others. That's the idea behind Science Commons, an organization started in 2005. Its members want to use the web to cut, among other things, the time it takes to develop a drug to fight a disease after discovering a gene that contributes to it.
