What do collecting old editions of Dungeons & Dragons monster manuals, securing the same tailgate spot for over 20 years and mastering yoga postures have in common? They are all forms of “serious leisure.”

These pursuits are different from casual hobbies in several ways. They require participation over longer periods, which makes people who practice them more skilled and more connected with the activity over time. The driving force for casual leisure is having fun; when a participant becomes more focused on accomplishment and improving their skills, the pursuit can gradually become more serious.

Howie Mandel’s accidental OCD 'overshare' on Howard Stern turned into a moment of personal triumph

Before becoming a well-known spokesperson for OCD, Howie Mandel unexpectedly revealed his diagnosis during a live broadcast. After spending much of his life hiding his condition from the public, he later reflected on that moment in an episode of The Assembly on the CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The show has autistic and neurodivergent people asking celebrities honest and unfiltered questions. It provided the perfect setting for Mandel to talk about his experience. In an Instagram post, he explains the accidental nature of the revelation that later sparked such a positive response from the public.

Chinese study says early maternal touch may encourage social behavior and empathy in teenagers

According to parents and physicians alike, physical touch and contact with infants and toddlers provide important benefits for both the mind and body. Even without scientific evidence, cuddle time, hugs, and other forms of physical affection between mother and child simply feel good. That said, a study in China suggests that maternal touch during those early years may benefit children well into their teenage years.

The study, authored by Kuo Zhang and Jinlong Su, examined whether there were links between early childhood maternal touch and prosocial behavior later in life. In the study, maternal touch was defined as physical contact initiated by the mother toward her child, including cuddling, skin-to-skin contact, holding, and gentle stroking.

Doctors say the ‘fart walk’ trend might actually help you live longer

When cookbook author and influencer Mairlyn Smith discussed “fart walking” on her Instagram, she likely didn't expect the concept to blow up the way it did.

Social media is now full of posts with the hashtag #fartwalk. The trend is simple. You join in by taking a walk after dinner in order to better release intestinal gas and aid in digestion.
