Overcrowding and increasingly pricey real estate have forced Amsterdam to look beneath its famed canals for future development. Dutch engineers have recently unveiled plans for Amfora, a $14 billion, six-level, one million sq. ft. underground metropolis, complete with retail, leisure and parking facilities.
Don't hold your breath though-construction isn't slated to begin until 2018. Oh, the slow life.
