Project: Take a Picture of Happy Stuff on the Street

by Hillary Newman

April 11, 2011

It's time for another crowdsourced Picture Show. And we need your help. This time around, we want you to capture an image of something you've found on the street.

Nicola recently posted a story about a broken-up couple who started a blog, Sad Stuff on the Street, to transition their failed long-distance relationship into a friendship. Their blog features images of old mattresses, deserted gifts, prosthetics, and the like.

But things found on the street don't always have to be sad. In fact, we're looking for the opposite. We want your image of a found object that makes you smile.

Send us a picture of something you've found on the street that makes you smile. Maybe it's a work of street art. Or maybe it's evidence of an act of kindness. Or maybe it's just something that's accidentally beautiful.

Please submit your photo and short explanation (up to 40 words) of the image here. It can be in any image format, but it should be high enough resolution that it can be printed at 300 dpi. We’ll take submissions now through Thursday, April 21. Then we'll publish a Picture Show with a selection of the submissions.

Once we receive the images, we will turn to you, the GOOD community, to choose the winning submission. The winning entry will be announced on, featured on our homepage, and printed in the next issue of GOOD. We’ll also send a GOOD T-shirt and a free subscription (or gift subscription) to the winner.
