How Indiegogo is Giving Back This Tuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and we're excited to participate in this year’s effort because we empower individuals, nonprofits, social innovators, families, and communities to increase awareness for causes they care about, mobilize a broader base of supporters, and drive real results—without the restrictions imposed by other crowdfunding platforms.

I’m the Education, Research and Social Innovation Director at Indiegogo, the largest global crowdfunding platform, with campaign owners and contributors spanning across 196 countries and territories.

The GOOD Community has done an amazing job of supporting some of our campaigns, such as Doniece Sandoval's mobile showers for the homeless, Jason Friesen's Rethinking 911 project, Tyler Alterman's mobile cognitive science lab, and Smiley Powolsky's Quartlerlife Breakthrough book. Having hosted over 100,000 campaigns and distributed millions of dollars every week around the globe for important causes people care about, we now have over 150 campaigns signed-on as #GivingTuesday projects on Indiegogo, including GOOD members DIY Girls' education project and Hailey Lynn's global citizenship storytelling campaign. We will be contributing $1 for every $20 raised December 3 on every valid #GivingTuesday campaign.

We are thrilled to see what is being accomplished as a part of this global effort. Here are some examples of some of the projects we'd love to see you get behind:

It usually takes 4-6 months to know if chemotherapy is working on breast cancer patients. Imagine getting to the end of your chemo treatment, and finding out it didn’t work. This campaign is raising funds to complete testing and refine the product in order to get it into clinics and help breast cancer patients everywhere.

Nicholas Karnaze, a U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations combat veteran, grew out his beard in tribute to his friend who was killed during combat in Afghanistan. During the process, he realized there was a need for better beard care products, so he developed his own formula. Now he’d like to share his product with the world and raise funds to support Veterans who are suffering from the mental wounds of war.

Please visit Indiegogo’s #GivingTuesday campaigns page to see all our campaigns that are participating in this global movement, and be sure to contribute to them on #GivingTuesday, December 3.
