The top global health stories this year run from the negative (Haiti and Pakistan) to the positive (the rise of mobile health apps).
Under the "needs more work" section of the list was fallout from the earthquake in Haiti and floods in Pakistan. Emergency response challenges and the ensuing diseases related natural disasters will continue to lead the news in the coming year.
But the best news this year came from the growth of of the use of mobile phones and mobile devices to collect data and help with remote diagnostics in the field. Wireless and mobile health solutions in global health will be the area to watch and invest in for 2011.
