There Are More Arrest Warrants in Ferguson Than People

The Department of Justice’s findings on Ferguson’s police are alarming.

Most arrest warrants stem from small crimes – parking citations, traffic violations and misdemeanor fines that go unpaid. In Ferguson, MO, there are 14 unique types of parking violations. Here are just a few simple things that can get you charged with a crime in Ferguson: Your manner of walking in the roadway, the height of the grass and weeds in your yard, and the frighteningly worded “failure to obey,” which sounds like a citation I’d give my dog if I were a dog policeman.

It’s no wonder that, according to the Department of Justice’s report on Ferguson’s police department, while there are only 21,000 residents, there were an alarming 32,975 arrest warrants issued in 2013 alone.
