This isn’t the first time Gal Gadot has chimed in on issues surrounding gender equality.
While doing press for the upcoming DC Comics blockbuster “Justice League,” Gal Gadot, better known to much of the world as Wonder Woman, was prompted by her co-star to respond to Hollywood’s widespread allegations of sexual harassment. Actor Ezra Miller, who plays The Flash in “Justice League,” urged Gadot to use her character’s intimidating demeanor to issue a warning to the abusive men who have turned Hollywood into a toxic environment for women.
Miller teed up his co-star with the following cue:
“I'm really into the idea of the turning of the tides. The last couple thousand years of human history have been so male-dominated in a way that has not always served us — clearly, here we are on the brink of destruction — so I wonder if you would say something for me. Would you say, into the camera, ‘Hetero-patriarchy, your wrath upon this world is over’? I want it so bad!”
Gadot, relishing the opportunity, obliged by stating, “Misogynist sexists, your wrath upon this world is over.”
Though she was speaking in character, her ad hoc performance is consistent with the stance the star has maintained in response to the torrent of abuse and harassment scandals surfacing in the entertainment industry. In October, the Israeli-born actress posted to Instagram in support for all the women who have come forward with their stories:
In the past week, Gadot was the subject of speculation that she had given an ultimatum to Warner Bros. According to a Page Six source, Gadot told the studio she refused to work on the “Wonder Woman” sequel if Brett Ratner, accused of harassing six women, participated in the film. Ratner’s production company, RatPac-Dune, participated in the financing of the original.
Prior to the report, Warner Bros. announced it was severing ties with Ratner amid the allegations. In response to the Page Six report, a Warner Bros. spokesperson offered simply, “It’s false.”
Regardless of the veracity of the reported ultimatum, it seems that Gadot and Warner Bros. have resolved their internal issues, had they ever existed. An announcement made yesterday from the studio revealed not only was “Wonder Woman 2” still on track, but the release date had been moved forward to Nov. 1, 2019.
